Cumulus is chopping with the budget axe and AM 950 KOEL in Oelwein, IA as been hit too.

I heard the Traffic Director was axed after 6 years with the station, the PD and Morning Show Host Rick Thomas left because of the chops, and one of the sales people left as well.

So, the axes are falling but they are hiring new sales people. WTF?

I was told Rick left KOEL because he was told to fire either the Traffic Director or the Production Assistant. From what I heard, he left because he didn't feel it was right. Who knows, but if it's true then radio needs more people like that.

....adding on the the post 2 messages ago, I do work in a major market as I have (comfortably) for 2 decades and I find that the major market hierarchy is full of crap. Maybe 10 years ago you would find more talented or experienced staff in a higher rated market, but not so much now my friend. If some town in IA is going through layoffs well then you ARE next.
